The United States has been one of Albania’s most important development partners since 1992, providing consistent support to strengthen democracy, good governance, the rule of law, and economic development. U.S. assistance has been pivotal to structural reforms, including justice reform, the fight against corruption, the strengthening of civil society, and greater transparency in public administration.
Through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Department of Justice programs (OPDAT and ICITAP), and grants from the U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Section (PAS), support has focused on modernizing institutions and advancing inclusive development. USAID has played a key role in promoting private-sector growth, empowering small and medium-sized enterprises, and improving the investment climate.
U.S. assistance has also extended to increasing civic participation, empowering youth, ensuring gender equality, and promoting sustainable development. This enduring partnership has helped Albania consolidate its democratic institutions and advance on its path toward Euro-Atlantic integration, making the United States one of the country’s most reliable and strategic allies.
