The OPEC Fund for International Development

The OPEC Fund for International Development (OPEC Fund) is a multilateral development finance institution established in 1976. Independent from OPEC itself, it is mandated to advance South–South cooperation and sustainable development in low- and middle-income countries. The Fund finances key sectors—including agriculture, education, energy, finance, health, infrastructure, transport, and water and sanitation—through loans, investments, grants, and policy support.

The Fund has 12 member countries, while all of its projects are directed exclusively to non-member countries.

Cooperation with Albania began in 1992 and has continued for more than three decades, supporting a wide range of sectors—from agriculture and education to infrastructure, transport, and water supply—while strengthening institutions and improving essential services.

Looking ahead, the OPEC Fund aims to deepen its partnership with Albania in line with national priorities and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, fostering resilience, inclusive growth, and lasting progress.
